Hi there! My name is Beth, and I'm an illustration artist based in northern Michigan. Thanks so much for visiting my website and learning a bit more about my work!
Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, my mom did an amazing job fostering a love for creating in our home. She often worked long into the night on her own art, taking old furniture, wooden boxes, and other unique found objects and painting intricate patterns and whimsical designs in bold vibrant colors across their surfaces. I would sit alongside her making my own creations in crayons, markers, gel pens, or other tools in my childhood art supply arsenal. I was allowed to experiment and each creation was met with enthusiasm and encouragement. In fact, my mom still has many of my childhood art hanging throughout my parent's house to this day. Each trip home, I get a chance to look at my young attempts at artistic greatness and laugh at my ridiculous lumpy "horses" and cockeyed portraiture. It can be easy to dismiss the artwork of one's past, but I've grown to really appreciate the unconditional support I received from my family. Without this, I don't think I ever would have found the courage to pursue my passions as an adult.
Like many young people entering college, I wasn't entirely sure what path I wanted to pursue. One thing that remained consistent throughout, was that I knew I wanted to work in a field where it was possible for me to connect with others on a deep level. Early on, I considered pursuing teaching, environmental studies, and mental health. After finishing my Associate's Degree, I moved to Marquette, MI to attend Northern Michigan University. Initially, I was planning on just taking a few art courses and maybe pursuing a minor. After one semester in the illustration courses, this completely changed, and I decided to pursue art full-time. I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in the spring of 2021, and now work as a professional illustration artist and graphic designer
In my work today, I enjoy creating art inspired by the natural world and the cosmos surrounding us. I often experiment with mixed-media and collage approaches both traditionally and digitally and utilize a vibrant earth-toned palette. I have worked in many different areas, but have a special love for storybook illustration, pattern design, and portraiture.
